CSWA's purpose is to promote the health, vitality and character of the Columbia Street Waterfront District neighborhood, located in Brooklyn, NY, bounded to the north by Atlantic Avenue, to the east by the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, to the south by Hamilton Avenue, and to the west by the East River, and to advocate for the interests of residents, businesses and others with a stake in the Columbia Street Waterfront community.

Our budgets are minimal and we rely on volunteers to make this work happen. Your membership and donations help us cover our expenses and offer neighborhood programs all year long. And for those of you who haven't joined as members yet, we invite you to become a member of the Columbia Street Waterfront Association! Columbia Street Waterfront Association, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. We’ve worked hard to keep CSWA’s expenses to a minimum, but we do have necessary expenses to cover, including this website and our newsletter software. Events come with venue fees and supplies to buy. So far, we’ve relied on the generosity of board and committee members to chip in and businesses to offer event spaces and refreshments pro bono. We have big plans for more advocacy, more ambitious events, and more community education. And we want to do more to support our local businesses—and feature business members on our Shop Local page! CSWA offers three membership types, Individual, Business, and Affiliate. CSWA does not want to exclude anyone from membership because of cost. For this reason, these are suggested annual donations only. In addition to joining the CSWA as a member, you can also make charitable donations to the Association. We are working to schedule our first annual meeting for this fall. We would love to have as many community members and businesses as possible join the Association ahead of that meeting. The larger our Association, the more successfully we can advocate for our community with government agencies and officials. Ready to join or donate? Visit our Support page here. And speaking of membership, CSWA needs you to join our Membership Committee! (and don't stop there, take a look at all of our committees!)We'll be announcing the date of our Annual Meeting soon. And as mentioned above, we want our membership to be as large as possible when we meet. We are counting on our Membership Committee to help spread the news with flyers, appearances at community events like those mentioned in our newsletter, and visits to local businesses. If you would like to help out with this important effort, please sign up for the Membership Committee via the form on our website. And check out our other committees too! All are active and we'd love to see them grow! Don't forget to save this date! Cobble Hill Association and CSWA co-sponsor a City of Forest Event at Van Voorhees Playground on Saturday, October 3!Van Voorhees Playground has long been a favorite spot for families from Columbia Street Waterfront and Cobble Hill. Kids love the swings, the playscapes, and the sprinkler. This year, community advocacy has led to traffic safety improvements that have made the walk to the park much less stressful. This spring, our CSWA Greening Committee and Cobble Hill Association (CHA) started discussing a joint event to beautify this vital park. We decided to plan a tree and plant stewardship event for Saturday, October 3, which is City of Forest Day 2026! Stay tuned for more details! Tiffany Place Block Party returns on Sunday, October 4!Ever since 2017, the Tiffany Place Block Party has been a highlight of the late summer/early fall for not just those of us who live on the street, but for neighbors across the Columbia Street Waterfront and from surrounding neighborhoods as well. CSWA Board of Directors newsJames DeFilippis, PhD, one of our original board members, recently stepped down from our board. We thank James for his invaluable contributions from the early days of establishing our Association, first as a member of our Governance Working Group, laying the foundation to obtaining our Certificate of Incorporation, and then as an active Board Member. James expects to continue working with our BMT Committee. He also remains the City Council Speaker’s appointee to the BMT Development Corporation. We are pleased to announce Zoe Grover has joined the Board this past August. Zoe has done amazing work leading our Community Life Committee, and we are thrilled to have her join our board.
