CSWA Update: details on March 11 BMT Environmental Info Review Session, latest on Concrete Recycling facility, and CSWA receives 501(c)3 status!

Hello March! Last week we shared the complete list of dates to save (included below for reference). As promised, we have more info on the March 11 BMT Environmental Review Session:

You can also click here for the flyer. Please share with your neighbors.

CSWA is pleased to be a community sponsor for this session. As we've written before, whether you are for, against, or neutral about EDC's BMT Vision Plan, we all have an interest in assuring the environmental impact assessment fully addresses every aspect of the plan which will affect our neighborhood, from traffic to flood resiliency to pollution, and more.

The focus of this informational session is to help community members prepare in advance of the March 16 virtual scoping hearing and to submit written commentary by March 31. Click here for information and to register or the hearing. We urge everyone to attend both the information session and the virtual scoping hearing, even if you have testified at earlier hearings.

SIMS Concrete Recycling Facility, 142 Columbia Street

Matt Malloy from Council Member Hanif's office confirmed last Friday that the DOT's concrete piles are gone, and that all concrete operations have been moved out of the facility. DOT said that removing the remaining trailers used for staff will take a few more weeks.

We are grateful to all our electeds and their teams for their persistent and diligent support of our community's efforts to close this facility and put an end to its harmful effects. This would not have happened without the commitment of our neighbors Leah Carroll, Sharon Gordon, Jana Weill, Molly Pearson, Victoria Rocco, and Jennifer Diamond to see this through to the end. We thank them and everyone from our neighborhood who campaigned long and hard to make this happen.

We had asked Council Member Hanif's office to follow up on the piles north of the DOT site, near Pier 9A. These are piles of aggregate and stone sublicensed from Red Hook Terminals to a private company, Divine Management. We understand Divine Management is expected to take steps to prevent dust blowing.

CSWA is now a registered 501(c)(3) organization!

We received the IRS decision letter on Friday! Donations to CSWA are now Federal tax deductible. This is a major step forward for our Association.
